THORACIC CURVE

The thoracic region of the spine, as with the lumbar and cervical, has an optimal curvature to support the body and protect against forces of compression, extension, shearing, and torque while also being the foundation for initiating movement.

Suboptimal spinal curve measurements are typically the result of muscle-length tension imbalances. That is, some muscles are short and tight while other muscles are long and loose. These imbalances literally pull the spine out of position.

The spine is a foundation element which core muscle stabilizers attach to. If you alter posture, you alter core function; if you alter core function, you alter movement, and performance suffers.

Understanding what the body is doing and where offers great insight and corrective opportunities.
